Something Different

Another post to show I just dont photograph animals. I spent a few days photographing on the Suffolk coast so here are a couple of shots from that trip.

Two different promotional shots

In my last blog I mentioned black and white images with just a bit of colour and here is one that I did of a horses head, I have also blacked out the surrounding area to make the horse stand out and lose all the distracting jumps, fences and trees in the background. I have decided to use this pic as one of my equestrian postcards that I give out at shows.  This is the image without the black to see the difference:

Just to show its just not animals I photograph here is a photograph of a cd cover I shot for the Dudi Crew when they recorded their first disc and which is on sale both as a cd and as a download, not that I would have a clue how to download it!  lol

If I could talk to the animals…

At this time of the year I am photographing animals of all sorts. These include horses and ponies at Le Trec , showjumping, dressage, showing and even those having horseshoes fitted in farrier competitions.

Add sheep, cattle and pigs at the East Of England Show, dogs of all sorts, and you can see why my suit stays firmly in the wardrobe! Cargo trousers and sturdy boots with polo shirt and a fleece seem to be my current uniform!

With some clients I know exactly the sort of photos they want but with others I have to try and do something different. This is often a closeup shot so I always look for details whenever I am out and about. With my print on site work or those for business people, more and more I find they want a black and white image with just one bit in colour which can look effective if not overdone. I think that less is more with lots of imagery so try to guide them to not asking for something that is gaudy or it looks like the effect has been applied just because it can be!

Hope you like the pics here and I do promise to blog more often although you know I have said that before!

Opening my eyes

Sunday saw me at March to see and photograph some of the musicians performing in the market place. I am around that area at least one a week but untill they put some steel fencing around a decaying building I had never noticed it! So much for being observant so I wandered over and took a few shots some of which I will post here. Although pleased with the shots I am still angry with myself that I hadnt noticed the building before.

Now that 2011 is here…

…I have been working out all the events I cover during the year and applying for my media passes. I always try to do this early in the year but like most things its not always possible. I have also been planning for the print on site work especially the equestrian events which have been filling up my hardrive. I could transfer them onto my back up drive in my study but then they wouldn’t be available for those people who turn up at an event and ask ” have you got the pics from 6 weeks ago as I want to buy some.” The answer was a portable harddrive that I could carry in my laptop case. Guess what? I found a 500gb one thats not much bigger than a couple of packs of cigarettes which is ideal.  While I was there I also bought a 2TB hard drive for the study so thats my spending for the new year, the Range Rover with the bootful of Nikon gear will have to wait a bit longer!!!!!
